What is a Postpartum Doula

A postpartum doula is a trained professional who recognizes that childbirth is a rite of passage and a journey of transformation. She acts to honor this initiation by creating a sacred and supportive space for families to ease into this shift by providing emotional, physiological, nutritional, physical and spiritual support.

What is Full Spectrum Postpartum Support

This offering provides nurturing support and is meant to empower new parents with the resources and knowledge they need to thrive during the fourth trimester. This may include emotional support, newborn care education, meal preparation, herbal support, housekeeping and running errands.
I recognize that each pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience is unique and that the emotional, physical, spiritual and nutritional needs of each birthing person and their family are personal and individualized. Therefore the range of services will generally be adjusted and customized to fit the needs of each individual family.

Examples of Postpartum Support

  • Support processing your unique birth experience
  • Gentle body, foot or womb massage to help soothe cramps, improve circulation and provide much needed relaxation for new mothers
  • Moxibustion to bring warmth and healing to the womb
  • Belly Binding and closing of the bones ceremony
  • Frequency Healing to help expedite healing and soothe the nervous system
  • Preparing and brewing specialty teas that support the individual goals and needs of each new mother
  • Preparing pelvic floor steams and sitz baths with the use of healing herbs
  • Cooking nourishing, organic, wholesome and replenishing meals suited to specific dietary needs or preferences
  • Providing community resources as needed
  • Around the clock support through phone, email or text

What Makes Jennifer's Postpartum Care Unique

Postpartum is a sacred window of healing, nourishment, and restoration. While many doulas offer nurturing care, my services are rooted in a deeper foundation of clinical training and holistic practice that weave together body, mind, and spirit.

With backgrounds in nutritional support, culinary preparation, clinical herbalism, and massage therapy licensure, I bring a level of knowledge and skill that goes beyond standard postpartum care. Each mother receives not only emotional and practical support, but also tailored protocols designed to restore balance, vitality, and long-term wellness.
Jennifer's Approach & Background
I am Jennifer Harris, a dedicated postpartum doula committed to providing thoughtful and comprehensive support to families during the precious postpartum period.

My work as a postpartum doula is rooted in both personal experience and years of hands-on training in the healing arts. I bring a deeply holistic approach to care -one that tends not only to the physical body, but also to the emotional, energetic, and spiritual shifts of early motherhood.

I’ve spent over a decade in the Culinary Arts, including time as an Ayurvedic chef, which taught me how to use food as medicine- especially in the tender postpartum window. I hold a degree in Psychology and have worked in mental health, where I became trauma-informed and trained, learning how to support people with presence, care, and emotional nuance.

I’m also a licensed massage therapist, trained in Prenatal, Postpartum, Craniosacral, Tui Na, Shiatsu, Thai Massage, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and I offer gentle, intuitive bodywork that helps support rest, regulation, and recovery. My background in Clinical Herbalism allows me to offer herbal remedies that are deeply nourishing and supportive for postpartum healing.

My formal doula and postpartum training was completed through Nurturely in Eugene, where I studied evidence-based, equity-informed, and culturally responsive care.

More than anything, I listen closely. I respond to what’s needed - whether it’s a warm meal, a grounding massage, quiet company, or simply space to feel what you’re feeling. This work is relational, intuitive, and skilled. It’s my honor to support you in a way that feels steady, nurturing, and deeply human.
Why I Became a Postpartum Doula
Becoming a mother changed everything for me. It opened my heart in ways I didn’t expect and revealed just how overlooked, vulnerable, and tender the postpartum period truly is in our culture.

I had prepared thoughtfully. I gathered my herbal allies, stocked my freezer, and embraced the early days with energy and joy. Those first six weeks felt smooth; I healed well, my milk supply was steady, and I felt deeply nourished and supported.
But then, around the two-month mark, the world got quiet. The visitors stopped coming. The cold of winter crept in. And I found myself in the depths of postpartum depression.

In that stillness, so much rose to the surface - old trauma, family patterns, the fierce protection I had over my boundaries that not everyone understood. I felt isolated. Sleepless. Cracked open in every direction. The beauty of motherhood was still there - but so was the pain, the overwhelm, the total transformation of self.

And I knew I wasn’t alone. I began to see so many other mothers walking this same tender path, often unsupported and unseen. That realization stirred something powerful in me - a calling to serve.

I wanted other mothers to feel held. To feel deeply supported, nourished, and honored in their healing. I wanted their postpartum journey to be one of softness, strength, and connection - not survival.

So I immersed myself. I studied everything I could about postpartum physiology, emotional recovery, optimal nourishment, and the time-honored traditions used in cultures across the world to care for new mothers. I wove together my existing skills with a deeper understanding of how to truly support someone in this sacred threshold.

Becoming a postpartum doula was a natural extension of everything I am and everything I believe in: that mothers deserve to be cared for with tenderness, reverence, and love.

This work is my heart.
You were never meant to do this alone.
And I am here to walk with you.
